Description:
This large-group role-play exercise is intended to help students understand different perspectives on a land development decision, and forms the basis for later class discussion about how a more sustainable alternative might have come about and what that might look like. There are 26 roles; if the group is smaller than this, some people toward the end of the role list can play 2 roles. I encourage students to get into their roles and practice their acting skills. Sometimes I have chocolate bar prizes for best actor and actress, as voted by the class. For large class sizes, I often take students outside on the grass and have several groups doing the role play simultaneously.
