Bio: 
Professor Stephen M. Wheeler teaches in the Department of Human Ecology at the University of California at Davis, and has previously taught at the University of New Mexico and U.C. Berkeley. Wheeler has written widely on urban sustainability topics and is the author of Planning for Sustainability: Creating Livable, Equitable, and Ecological Communities (Second Edition 2013) and Climate Change and Social Ecology (2012). He is also lead editor of The Sustainable Urban Development Reader (with Timothy Beatley; Third Edition 2014). His research focuses on urban sustainability, climate change planning, and urban morphology. He is the winner of the 2015 Academic Leadership Award from the California Climate and Agriculture Network (CalCAN), the 2009 William R. and June Dale Prize for Excellence in Urban and Regional Planning, a Switzer Fellowship for environmental leadership, and the Infill Development prize (with Michael Larice) in the Housing the Next Ten Million urban design competition. He is currently working on a book entitled Built Landscapes: Patterns of Form in the World’s Urban Regions and their Implications for Sustainability. After previous work as an environmental activist in Washington, D.C. and the San Francisco Bay Area, Wheeler received his doctorate in city and regional planning from U.C. Berkeley in 2000.
